Types of Pick-Your-Own Cherries

Here at Cherry Hill Orchards, a cherry farm near you, we grow two primary types of cherries: sweet cherries, perfect for snacking, and pie cherries, a bit more tart and ideal for baking.

When you come to our orchard during picking season, you'll be on the hunt for cherries that are firm and fully ripe. Cherries have a short season here in Lancaster, PA, so you'll want to hurry and get here when the cherry trees are ready!

Sweet Cherries

If you enjoy snacking on sweet cherries, you'll want to visit us in mid-June for this delicious, seasonal fruit. We can't give exact dates because each year is slightly different based on changing weather patterns. However, when our sweet cherries are ready, you can visit us for cherry picking in Lancaster, PA!

Pie Cherries

Pie, or sour cherries, are used for baked goods, jams, jellies, and other tasty treats. These are available at the end of June and beginning of July each year, sometimes extending into mid-July. Cherries are a good source of vitamin C, fiber, and other nutrients, so picking ripe cherries is not only fun, but it's healthy for you!




Cherry Picking Information

Our orchard offers pick-your-own cherries, and we want you to have a safe and memorable picking experience. To protect the well-being of our guests and employees, we ask that you follow these rules and regulations while visiting us:

  • Please remain in your car until it is your turn at the check-in and check-out sheds.
  • For your convenience, we have three sizes of boxes available for purchase. Please choose your desired pack and then visit our trees to pick your fruit.
  • We ask that you refrain from visiting us if you have recently been exposed to COVID-19 or are ill with respiratory symptoms, such as cough, shortness of breath, stomach illness, and/or fever.
  • Due to Federal Food Safety Regulations, pets are not allowed in the orchard.

There is nothing quite like fresh, local produce that you pick yourself. Picking cherries with your family is a great way to bond, get some fresh air, and have fun enjoying the bounty of fruits on our trees. Whether you're coming with family or a group of friends, please keep in mind this important information about our orchard.

Hours

Our pick-your-own cherry hours are Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 4 PM. We are closed on Sundays.

Weather Delays

In the event of a widespread rainstorm, we may delay our opening or close early. Please call us at 717-872-9311 to confirm our hours during that time.

Ripening Dates

The exact dates of finding ripe cherries at Cherry Hill Orchards vary each year due to changing weather conditions. Therefore, all ripening dates are approximate.

Things to Bring

Remember to wear good, sturdy shoes, as you are visiting a farm and some of the ground may be uneven. Also, bring your camera to capture all the magical memories you're sure to make. Please leave your furry friends and containers at home.

While you're here, be sure to visit our Farmer's Market and Orchard Outlet, which is sure to have a little something for everyone! You can find a variety of local, fresh fruits and vegetables, a bakery with pies, cookies, and other sweet treats, a garden center featuring plants, hanging baskets, and garden supplies! There are even snacks, apple and cherry firewood, fruit baskets, and so much more!
